I’m beginning to love the stage of restlessness just before bed when the kids are a little too tired for another story, the sigh within their yawns is too hard to keep inside, blinks becoming longer, moments away from drifting into a deep sleep.

These are the conversations I giggle about.

Ellie: Mommy (yawn) my friend Isabella doesn’t like blue candy…long pause….I like all colours of candy.

Me: Yes, I know, you are a candy monster.

Ellie: Isabella likes orange, red, yawn, yellow, ya-wn, orange…

Me: Yes, she likes orange

Ellie: and red, yellow and orange……eyelids now resting closed on her cheek.

Me: She likes a lot of colours of candy

Ellie: I like all colours in the rainbow….drool….and candy

Me: Me too

Ellie: Isabella doesn’t like blue candy. She likes the other c-o-l-o-u-r-ssssssssssss……zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, orange…….
