Hanna is now officially on summer holidays. It was a tiring first day with a visit to the butterfly conservatory. The admission cost was $22 for the girls and me for entry into a greenhouse that would take an adult human twelve paces to tour from start to finish with a tricky kicker for an ending. The exit dumps you into the gift shop. Well played Wings of Paradise Butterfly Conservatory, well played. The last thing I wanted to do after dropping $22 for a hot, humid circular walk, while I ducked and swung at butterflies landing on my head and scraped my damp, scouring pad for a coif off the ceiling, was to have to drag my children kicking and screaming out of a gift shop because I refused to spend $39.99 for a paper butterfly kite that would tear before being dragged even half way across our lawn, which, incidentally, is twenty times larger than the butterfly conservatory I just paid $22 to get into.
