Weird….

Just when I think I’ve heard it all.

I was on a trip with Hanna’s grade four class yesterday at a local greenhouse.

The students learned all about preserving the forests, protecting our wildlife and later planted seedlings.

I guess the strangest thing I heard was when one of the very patient staff members while demonstrating how to carefully remove excess soil from the delicate roots of the trees, a boy interrupted (well, he did raise his hand) to tell everyone, “I once shoved my head inside a pumpkin and then carved it while my head was still in there.”

I was fairly certain this was going to be the weirdest part of my day until driving home from swimming with Ellie she asked, “Mommy, why do some parts of our body jiggle and some parts don’t?”

I breathed deeply realizing I was one wrong parenting sentence away from a seven year old with an eating disorder.

Me: Why do you ask Ellie?
Ellie: No reason.

Oh dear, she’s heard something and is worried about her body image. Tread lightly.

Me: Well, some parts of our body are meant to support us, like our strong legs while others have other functions. Is that kind of what you’re talking about?

Ellie: No, I just wanted to know why your arms jiggle when you drive.
