Budding Artist….

Chloe was complaining she was being dragged to her sister’s swim practice. Again.

We ran an errand, we came back and we sat in the stands and watched kids swimming many, many lengths in a pool. Row after row of them, back and forth, warm, chlorinated air. How could that possibly be boring to a five year old?

Just as she screamed at me “This is SO boring!” for the fiftieth time, she fell instantly asleep while sitting on my lap scolding me for being more boring than the kids in the pool who out of spite were also choosing not to be more entertaining to Chloe.

I held her in my lap while she looked like the most peaceful, sweaty little ball of mystery I had ever laid eyes on.

Her flip flops were set in between her second and third toes on her right foot and dangling off of her left. Her feet had kindergarten mud-prints all over them.

I giggled at her earlier comment, “Hey Mommy, you know how I never ask for anything?” I can laugh when she’s asleep because I’ve had time to decompress and really appreciate how quickly these moments will pass. Also, the chance of being screamed at when she’s asleep decreases substantially.

When she woke up, after leaving a sizable dent in my chest from leaning and sweating on me for the better part of fifteen minutes, I came up with what might be considered the world’s most exciting game.

We were going to draw a face using a scrap piece of paper out of my purse and the one pen that still worked despite the many I have floating around in there.

I would draw the eyes and the mouth, Chloe would be responsible for the nose and hair.
I know it looks like Chloe drew all of the features but in my defense, I was drawing on my lap and I already apologized to my art teachers for being ridiculous when it came to sketching people so…..buttons.

Chloe drew the nose seconds after waking up from leaning on my chest.

Huh.
