Classroom Set-Up….

Hanna came home from her first day of grade seven pretty excited about some of the new things they are going to work on in her classroom this year.

The most noteworthy is the assignment of jobs to all of the students in the class. The kids have been tasked with applying for jobs to complete some of the following daily chores; wiping blackboards, tidying bookshelves, cleaning desks etc.

I don’t know where this teacher was trained but well played teacher. Well. Played. I never thought to have them actually apply to do work around the house but that’s next on my list after having them arm-wrestle to be the first to vacuum the mini-van.

What I loved about this approach is that the students will fill out an application for the various positions and then the teacher will interview them to see if they are suited for the role.

Not only has this teacher convinced kids to line up to clean the classroom every day, they will be put through a grueling interview process and possibly be turned down if too many apply for the same gig.

Okay, how is this person not running a Fortune 500 company?

Hanna mentioned, along with the applications, “The teacher is also going to check our refugees or whatever, to see if we are qualified.”

Huh.

I guess the refugees are as good a group as any to give feedback about the students.

I wonder if they would be willing to do any work around the classroom?
