Pretty Souls….

I mentioned my six year old and how we have been encouraging her to write sentences and use some of her weekly spelling words from her grade one classroom to practice at home. She is improving in leaps and bounds.

Just yesterday, I found a note that said, “They are pretty souls.”

Huh.

It seemed like a deeper piece of writing than I usually see from our six year old (“Keep the kes” being the standard for the past several days).

She must be thinking about her sisters and recognizing that on a human level, from the perspective of the younger sister they really are “pretty souls.” What could be sweeter than a six year old who adores her two, older siblings thinking of them on such a fundamentally, basic level? That they may not always be perfect but deep down, they are well meaning, supportive and kind and their hearts are in the right place.

We’re not overly religious but Chloe did ask me the other day if when we die when we’re Grandmas if we come back some day as a new born baby. Beautiful. Moving. Pretty souls.

I was so delighted to ask Chloe, “I found your note. Can you read it to me?”

She said, “They are pretzels.”
