Rockin’….

My soon to be nine year old daughter wants everything to be “rockin’.” She wants her clothes to be rockin’ her accessories and hair to be rockin’ and now, it is imperative that her bedroom be rockin’.

We spoke briefly about how we could go about making some of her rockin’ dreams a reality, noting, I am looking for the least amount of rockin’ work possible, coupled with the least amount of rockin’ hired help and avoiding an overall theme that screams, “Hey everybody! Crazy rockin’ people live here!”

I am okay with making a few subtle rockin’ changes to her room, keeping the bones of the space as is and adding the odd rockin’ touch in the form of accent pieces.

I was careful to suggest, “What if we choose a black and white (damask) print to upholster over a floral print we already have above the headboard?” She looked at me doubtful that would qualify as rockin’ so quickly changing the rhetoric, she was miraculously on board, “What if we choose a black and white print to upholster, like a really rockin’ one?”

“Okay! Like leopard?”

Me: “No, something, like really rockin’ like a black and white swirl-type-rockin’ pattern.” (Using rockin’ twice in the same sentence may seem like overkill but she had tuned out everything else I was saying, as though all other words were in Mandarin aside from the rare English injection of “rockin’.”

Me: I saw a really beautiful, upholstered headboard with a cream background and fireflies printed on it.

Hanna: Oh! Instead of fireflies, what if we paint it black and have fireworks exploding all over it?

I was already regretting not referring to the fireflies as rockin’.

“Oh! And I need a make-up table.”

Me: Okay, but what do you think you’ll use a make-up table for when you don’t own any make-up and aren’t going to be wearing any for many years? (Or if you’re like me, just for weddings)

This room is going to be rockin’ ridiculous.

Off to the basement to find a comfortable rockin’ chair.
