Our nine year old daughter, Hanna, is about to turn ten.

We looked up the traditional ten year old girl birthday gift. First birthdays are ear tubes, second is a potty (If you don’t have one by the time they’re two, the birthday is a great time to start training aggressively). We cross referenced the tenth birthday theme and went immediately to Canadian Tire to purchase her very own metal detector, exactly what the experts suggested.

She has spent the summer combing the beach looking for sea glass every chance she gets so we thought a metal detector might bring in some results we could actually cash in on.

But last night Hanna gave me the best early birthday gift the Mother of a ten year old could ever ask for.

She walked up to me and randomly said, “Mommy, I really love my body. I love the way I feel and I love the way my clothes fit.”

I froze against the wall.

Surely there’s a Help-Line for this.

How do I bottle this for the rest of her life?

Never mind the metal detector. Hanna’s already found the buried treasure most people spend their lives searching for.
