Memory….

Greg was talking to Hanna about the battery life of her ipod and how it’s important not to charge it all the time.

He explained to her that batteries have a memory and if you continue to charge them when they’re always at 90% power, the battery will no longer be able to hold a full charge over time.

Huh.

Hanna seemed as though she totally understood what he was saying. I remained stumped and dove into the walnuts in my oatmeal so I had something to crunch should anyone look to me for verification. If I was asked to elaborate I would just point to my mouth, crunch loudly and pretend I really wanted to contribute to this fascinating conversation that I am obviously an expert in if it wasn’t for these pesky walnuts. Next time I’ll dazzle you with my Science wizardry.

I was really proud to see my nine year old look so thoughtfully at Greg. I could tell she was processing what he was saying and making sense of it all.

Then Ellie came into the room and approached the docking station to charge her ipod.

Hanna: Ellie! Don’t charge your ipod! It will ERASE your memory. You won’t even know who you are, your own name, your school, ANYTHING!

Exactly what I was thinking Hanna. Nailed it.
