Trappy….

Watching kids meet a new friend always blows me away.

If adults were as open to new adventures, opportunities, introductions, we would all be better off.
If I haven’t said it before, you could learn a lot from my children.
Last night, we took the girls to a park after dinner. There were a few other kids hanging around the equipment, one family of seventeen had their eyes on the spinning monkey bars but Hanna and Ellie had claimed prime seats at the top while Greg and I stood back in the spill over/vomit-zone.

Chloe wandered over to another play area and tried to first understand a young Spanish girl and then spoke to her in English when she heard the girl suggest she was trapped behind the bars.

I have no idea if she was claiming to be trapped but one of the Spanish words she said sounded a bit like, “trap” so Chloe ran with it.

Chloe: Oh, if you’re trapped, you just put your feet through these holes and walk through this spot.

She spoke to the girl who was at least eight years her senior as though she were one of her baby dolls.

Me: Chloe, what is your friend’s name?

Chloe: Trappy.

Trappy’s Mom waited with her ipod under a covered area with picnic tables where she and Trappy’s Aunt took turns taking pictures of each other’s bums. I’m not sure why Trappy’s family decided the park was the right backdrop for these pics but Chloe was happy to observe and listen to this new way of speaking/approach to photography.

I did see a Dad pushing his daughter on the swings and his wallet was dangling from a giant hole in his rear jean pocket. Are you catching that Trappy’s Mom? Photographic gold.

On the way home Chloe informed us that Trappy was her new best friend.

I wanted to tell her that Trappy’s Mom was my new best friend but I didn’t extend myself the same way my three year old had and also, I’m pretty sure Trappy’s Mom has a blurred photo of my ass somewhere on her iphone.

Next time, I promise to be more open and on an unrelated note, I might also stop wearing these low-rise jeans.
