Dropped The Ball….

When Hanna was in grade three, I bought her the book “The Care & Keeping Of You.”

She read that book regularly, kept it under her bed, dog-eared pages, asked questions, asked for deodorant and smeared it on the outside of her clothes. It was nice.

Then in grade four, maybe five, I bought her the second edition of the book which got a little more in depth into how we should be caring and keeping ourselves. It was age appropriate and once again it was a spring board for dialogue between us. It also helped to prepare her for conversations at school between her friends and inside the classroom during health classes. Deodorant was slowly making its way on the right side of her clothing.

I really prepared Hanna for all that might come her way and was so proud of myself for being proactive about topics that others may have felt uncomfortable discussing.

Yesterday Ellie, now in grade three came home and said, “Mom! You will never believe what we had to do at school today! We had to look at a picture and everyone had to say the word ‘Buttocks’ out loud!”

What the heck is that about?

Oh, was I supposed to talk to my other kids too?
