Happy Sunday To You….

We had a carrot cake in our freezer that was becoming overripe. It had to be eaten or fulfill its freezer-burnt destiny and wind up in a smoothie. It was time.

We didn’t have a special occasion to celebrate and/or we kept forgetting about the cake.

Okay that might be a lie. Every time I opened the basement freezer I would see the cake, smell the lid, close my eyes and instantly, I was transported to my happy place.

I added a candle to everyone’s piece of cake because that’s what good Moms do and our candle collection was spilling out of the cupboard so I pounced on the opportunity to use five of them.

I even got the kids on board and we all sang “Happy Sunday To You” to the tune of Happy Birthday.

Wow am I really saying this out loud?

Everyone made a wish when they blew out their candle. It was actually very sweet and a great distraction while I licked the icing off of everyone else’s cake after mandating wishes will only be granted if they are made while your eyes are closed.

Someone wished for super powers, someone wished to understand math. I wished to remember this moment in time forever.

Hanna turned to little sister Chloe and asked, “What did you wish for?”

“A fork.”
