I Didn’t Know We Could Invoice For That!…

I read something I found to be quite hilarious yesterday and thought I should share it.

A family in the UK was hosting their son’s 5th birthday party at a ski hill with some wintery, outdoor activities like tobogganing planned.

A child/former friend from his school who neglected to let the family know he was unable to attend (after initially saying he could) was later sent home from preschool with an invoice from the host family asking to be reimbursed for the portion of the party they had paid for him to attend.

I had no idea we were allowed to do this!

This has opened up a new way of looking at party hosting and parenting in general.
Imagine the things we could start invoicing people for?

Let’s talk about the kids who come over and only eat half of what we put on their plates. We could institute the All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet policy but for play dates. If you order more apple slices and raisins but run away from the table before finishing, you pay. Simple.

How about a cleaning fee for the kids who run all over the house with fistfuls of crackers? Maybe even adding in a small (realistic) deposit for the kids who are known hand clappers?

Could we not invoice for “Use of Miscellaneous supplies” for the kids who forget to bring a toothbrush to a sleepover? How about a laundering sheets and towels fee with a fluff & fold option?

Oh and how about for the movie we rent and accompanying snacks?

But why stop there?

For those kids who keep us up all night giggling, exactly how much is my time worth?

I’m thinking we could set that one up by the hour but I haven’t worked out the specifics.

Heaven forbid someone gets sick in our house. That might have to be paid bi-weekly to keep it affordable for the visiting family.

I think this whole invoicing thing wouldn’t make sense if we didn’t institute a “Late Pick-Up” fee. We could probably allow for some forgiveness with say 36 hours notice?

I’ll keep brainstorming.

In the meantime, here is a link to the absurdity.

What else should we start invoicing for?
