Sippy Cup?…

How old is too old to be drinking warm milk from a sippy-cup twice a day? If you say forty-three, I’ll move Greg onto a mug and replace the contents with bourbon.

Chloe, at five years old, still drinks warm milk from a sippy-cup every morning and at night before brushing her teeth and reciting the lyrics to the newest Pitbull song.

It’s maybe the one thing that sets her apart from other five year old rappers.

The warm milk routine has just become a morning habit and one I’ve never really questioned. It gives her some dairy, she can drink it in the family room because the cup has a lid and it doesn’t seem to be harming anyone.

But how old is too old?

I’m not saying she’s ready for a brandy snifter but surely this has gone too far.

Am I holding onto some small, albeit in-your-face symbol that she’s still a very young person? Is it because she spends the day saying things like, “Mommy, I’m really cute and you’re….well….down to earth”? Or “Come and sit next to me Old Mumsy.”

I’m wondering if I need the sippy-cup more than she does though when I asked her if it was time to move onto a big-kid cup she said, “I need my warmilk (one word) because it helps me sleep” and who am I to get in the way of her sleeping?
