Olympic Dreams Shattered….

Chloe, our five year old, stalling before bed last night said, “Mommy, but what if I never make it to the Olympics in anything in my whole life?”

I’m not sure why she started with “but what if,” it made it seem as though we had been talking about the Olympics or the future or hopes and dreams and not her grade one, Home Reading book, the first (of many I hope) in the series, “Trucks.”

I told her there is only a very small, select group of people in the entire world who ever make it to the Olympics.

I didn’t think it was the right time to say firmly, “You’re not going to the Olympics, night-night.”

I then drew her attention to something awesome she had overlooked. Something amazing that happened to her at school. Something bigger than the Olympics, bigger than all of us.

Chloe came home with a first place ribbon from the local Fall Fair after entering (in absentia) under the category “Printing.”

Here is her first and certainly not last award winning submission.

In the printing Olympics, she’s number one.
