Accidental Porn……

The internet is a funny place. There are millions of sites to be surfed and more than a few secrets. Sadly, in some cases, there aren’t enough secrets because I seem to stumble across porn when I least expect it and if I’m not actively looking for it, imagine how easy it is for people who are?

My first accidental porn encounter was years ago when my younger brother was playing hockey for the Elmira Sugar Kings. He had a good game that we missed and I wanted to look up what the reporter said about him online.

Typing in Elmira Sugar Kings was a mistake. I’m not sure if it was the Sugar, the Kings or the combination of the sweet monarch that signalled the porn distributors to start their aggressive nudie campaign on my account, but for several weeks, I had pictures of naked women popping up on my screen, only a handful with anything to say about my brother’s hockey game.

Most recently, when searching for pics to include in these posts, it hasn’t mattered what search words I type in, it could be “garbage in the garage” and inevitably, there will be a pic of a naked woman taking out the trash or, teenage girls fighting with a blurry garbage can in the background or someone with enormous breasts, no garbage, no garage, just boobs.

A friend of ours was looking on youtube to find a video of one of their kid’s favourite cartoons and harmlessly pressed play. While the first twenty seconds seemed to have some sense of normalcy, what followed was an episode of Max and Ruby no brother/sister should ever engage in. Yuck.

Porn is popping up everywhere and I worry now that our kids have their own laptops or, access to computers they are going to be bombarded with Sugar Kings, the likes of which we’ve never seen.

Is the internet just a giant pornographic album with a google maps centrefold to distract us?
