Mommy’s Make-up Trunk…Free Samples

I’ll get back to writing another day. Today was about charades, Uno and a crash-course in make-up application as taught to me by Ellie.

We stumbled upon an industrial sized case of make-up I had purchased close to ten years ago at Costco. I bought it on one of those days it had actually been ten years since I had worn make-up and what better way to take this step toward top hat and tails seriously than purchasing a trunk full of colours from a big box warehouse.

The Kirkland brand (synonymous with baby wipes, pale, men’s, blue jeans and now, high end make-up) trunk has found a cozy home in my bathroom linen closet, sometimes stacked with bars of Dove for sensitive skin, others with 4500 rolls of toilet paper, again, courtesy of Costco.

It was just after Ellie became angry with me for not being able to guess she was acting like an owl (how could I have overlooked the obvious as she ran with her head tucked down toward her chest, arms tight at her side while sprinting from wall to wall?) She’s an evil genius when it comes to thinking outside the box when it comes to charades. She grew tired of my ignorance and there was no convincing her that the make-up trunk should continue to collect bathroom accessories and give some height to an otherwise boring closet full of linens.

She opened the trunk with ease and immediately removed the brush assigned for blush. She asked for the cheek fluffer and fluff she did. She stood in front of the mirror watching and claimed her cheeks really were fluffier after several brush strokes although I was still stewing over the owl thing so I couldn’t affirmatively comment.

Next up was purple eye shadow making her giggle with each tickling of her eyelids. She remained fairly still. Equally impressive was her attempt to out-time her own blinks in front of the mirror, trying to make it possible to see what her closed, purple eyes now looked like.

Lastly, like any supermodel’s request, cat whiskers and off we went to swimming lessons.
