Ice Packs….

Hanna: Mommy, some boys at my school run around at recess wearing ice packs on their heads.

Me: Well Hanna boys are and always have been a big question mark. That sounds very strange in this weather but there are some trends I just can’t explain.

I tried to tell her that some of the older boys in grades seven and eight at her school are exploring who they are, rebelling a little against authority, pushing limits, boundaries and sometimes, we don’t know why they act the way they do.

My hope for my kids is that they are fashion forward trendsetters not like their mother who is a follower (at best) and while I think of it, are we just tucking our pants into any pair of boots or is this a discussion for my life coach?

I went on ad nauseum describing different fashion trends that were popular when I was younger, most notably,  the pants around the thighs look where showing people your underwear meant a) you wore underwear and b) you possessed some sort of wow-factor completely lost on me because in my day that kind of short-legged showmanship was reserved for flashers only.

A few minutes later, en route to swimming lessons, we passed a man waiting at a crosswalk.

Hanna: Hey! That guy’s wearing one too! It’s not just kids Mommy—grown-ups are wearing ice-packs.

Ah the turban.
