Summer Reading….

Ellie, our eight year old, spun the wheel and decided on her obsession for the day. Summer reading.

I made the colossal mistake of asking her if she would like a new book to read on her Kobo and that got the ball rolling.

Ellie: Mommy, do you know what we should do? We should go to the library so I can find a new series I want to read for the summer. Then we can read a chapter together then I’ll read a chapter by myself. Oh, this can be your summer job Mom (WHAT?) and when we drive to the cottage, you can sit in the backseat with me and we can read them. We should read two chapters a night instead of just one because it’s summer holidays so we can stay up later…to read. Also, we don’t want to ‘let your kid go down the slide.’ Our school Librarian told us over the summer some kids go down the slide (of course, it’s summer, I should hope so). Going down the slide is a bad thing because it means they stop reading even though they had been reading all year but they go down the slide and forget about it and then they have to climb back up when the new school year starts. I’ll read you the names of the books I want you to get.

From our shared back seat or right now?
