One of my kids brought this zinger home and asked for my opinion. And by “opinion” they meant, “Can you tell me the answer while you make me a peanut butter sandwich? I’m really craving it since the big ban.”

A crate contains 12 boxes. Each box contains 12 packages. Each package contains 12 pencils. What math expression would describe the total number of pencils in a crate?

I’m not sure my response would be considered a “math expression” so much as another kind of expression–an English expression with no reference to math and probably fairly colourful.
