I should have known Chloe was overtired after an all-day, outdoor field trip with her kindergarten class prompted her to put on her yoga pants and invite me to go for a walk with one of her toy dogs so we could trick the neighbours into thinking it was a new pet we had recently adopted, purple fur and all.

I told myself, only a good Mom would be seen in public after twice being asked, “Liz, did you spend the day in a barn with smelly animals?” Sort of.
The trick-walk turned sour when someone called her bluff and asked Chloe about her stuffed dog. That’s when she immediately turned to me (because I obviously called ahead to let them in on the trick) and shouted, “I only want Dad to come on field trips from now on!”

I’m not sure what one had to do with the other but, okay.

We pulled ourselves and our dog together when we got home had some milk and invisible kibble and then she asked me if she could bring her bedroom chandelier into her classroom for “Show & Share” day.
