My Trip To The Museum….

I volunteered to go on a field trip to the museum with my daughter’s grade six class.

The museum was hosting a series of Egyptian relics, replete with artifacts and….sorry, fell asleep.

We sat in a basement classroom and watched a presentation on simple machines. It was the same presentation I had attended a few months earlier with my other daughter’s grade two class.

The power point presentation was the same but the kids’ observations were slightly more detailed, a sign of their maturity.

One student raised his hand and asked the Egyptian expert if she knew where Cleopatra was buried.

The expert acknowledged the question with, “Well that is a great question” and went on to explain that no one knows where Cleopatra is buried, her remains/tomb have never been found.

The student pressed on.

“Yes they have. It’s right outside the Sphinx or very close to it.”

Now I’m listening.

He was very sure of himself and would soon reveal his sources to back up his theory.

The expert wondered (if for a very brief moment) if news of Cleopatra’s findings had recently become public and she had been too busy curating at a museum to have heard.

“It’s right near the Sphinx, like about twenty feet away.”

Silence. This was starting to get real.

“I saw it on Scooby-Doo.”
