Bahamas Sounds Dreamy….

Last night at 4 something in the morning, I felt a drop of water land on the one piece of exposed skin, the tip of my elbow and I knew I should probably try to (at the very least) figure out who was crying on me or if there was a leak in the ceiling.

This time it was Ellie, our 8 year old and she was upset because, “Our group left the math book open and we didn’t write the answers in Lily’s book. We are going to be in so much trouble and Lily left for Bahamas so there’s no way to write the answers in her book and we left it open so we’re totally getting in trouble.”

Me: What? Who goes there? Why couldn’t it have been a leak?!

It sounded to me like the person we should be mad at was Lily and also jealous about the whole Bahamas thing.

Ellie explained a second time, “The book was open. It was o-pen. OPEN! We can’t write the answers in. Another group got in trouble and now we are too!”

Greg rolled over and said, “Don’t worry Ellie, we’ll make sure you don’t get in trouble.”

Now I’m having a side bar with Greg whispering, “We can’t know that. We can’t just solve every problem for our kids. It’s okay for her to admit she made a mistake and be mad at Lily for going to Bahamas….wait, what are we upset about?

Ellie couldn’t be consoled. She was tired and confused and upset.

Greg, “We’ll call the teacher tomorrow Ellie.”

Me kicking him under the covers. We are not calling her teacher on a weekend. We don’t even really know what she’s talking about. We do know it involves math and that is a road neither one of us feels very comfortable traveling. Also, maybe that kid sunning herself in Bahamas deserves to get in trouble?

Thankfully, this is happening on the day Hanna is practicing Hot Cross Buns on her flute for the first time.
