Last night, well after the girls should have been asleep, I heard books being dropped (or thrown) from high places, giggling, screaming followed by quick shush-filled apologies, then more books, or toys, more throwing, dropping, shushing, apologies.

Me: Everyone go to sleep!

Hanna: I am asleep!

Ellie: Me too!

Chloe: I’m not asleep Mommy………and sisters are lying.

Chloe, age three, came wandering down the hall. Why not? She admitted she was awake while the other two were fakers (and liars) so they were waiting in isolation to hear how I would react to one child getting out of bed before daring to make it three.

Chloe: Mommy, I just have two questions for you before I go to sleep.

I always love the random questions stall tactic because sometimes they give some insight into what is weighing heavily on our children’s minds.

Me: Okay, let’s hear them.

Chloe: The first question is, can I just watch a couple of hours of shows with you and Daddy because that would be really nice for me and the second question is what is revenge?
